History of Disability Exhibit now online
The award-winning exhibit, “From Institutions to Independence: A History of People with Disabilities in Northwest Ohio” is now available for viewing online. This 2008-2009 exhibit explored the local history of persons with disabilities and the organizations that were formed to serve them.
The exhibit and related events won several awards for both the quality of the scholarship and the educational content of the work. Among its awards were:
- 2009 Philip M. Hamer and Elizabeth Hamer Kegan Award from the Society of American Archivists
- 2008-2009 Edith Rathbun Outreach and Engagement Excellence Award
- 2008 Community Access Award from the Ability Center of Greater Toledo
- 2008 Ohio Public Images Award of Merit, Special Event from the Public Images Network
OhioLINK Scheduled Downtime: 5/28/2009
Weekly scheduled OhioLINK downtime for systems maintenance:
“The OhioLINK Library Catalog will be unavailable while planned maintenance is performed beginning at 11 p.m. on Thursday, May 28, until approximately 1:00 a.m. on May 29. During this time you will not be able to search the catalog or request items. The Electronic Journal Center will also be unavailable for maintenance from 12:00 a.m. until approximately 1:00 a.m. on Friday, May 29. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.”
New Art Exhibit: Accessible Expressions Ohio
Through May 29th the Canaday Center art gallery on the 5th floor of Carlson Library will feature Accessible Expressions Ohio, a touring juried exhibit that celebrates Ohio’s artists with disabilities. A variety of works in several media are on view in professional, emerging, and youth categories, and many are available for purchase.
The exhibit is the work of VSA Arts of Ohio, who will hold a Careers in the Arts regional workshop on May 29th in the Canaday Center. Call 614.241.5325 for more information.
New backfiles to Science & Nature journals
The library has significantly expanded our electronic access to older issues of the top-rated scientific journals Science and Nature.
You can now get online access to Science articles back to volume 1, issue 1 in 1887! Nature articles are available back to 1950.
Diversity Resources Page
The Libraries have created a Diversity Resources Page as a portal to diversity-related resources at the in the library, at The University of Toledo, in the community, and for librarians.
One of the special features of the page is a list of diversity-related book awards, so that you can easily find out about fiction and non-fiction books for both children and adults in a wide-variety of diversity categories.
