Blackboard Classes now Link to LibGuides for Library Resources

Do you have a class in Blackboard? Would you like to have access to high quality academic resources for online research?  This quick video shows you how to find a link to academic resources from the Blackboard class menu. LibGuides (library guides) will take you to electronic resources in multiple formats including articles, e-Books, newspapers, videos, and more. LibGuides are accessible 24/7 from a Smartphone, tablet, or computer.

LibGuides now available in Blackboard classes

The UT Libraries are making access to high quality research materials easier for students. Every Blackboard classroom now has a link in its menu to subject-specific LibGuides (library guides), providing students with an introduction to finding articles, e-Books, internet sources, textbooks, and more. LibGuides are available 24/7 from smartphone, tablet, or computer.

Instructors are invited to collaborate with a UT librarian to develop a LibGuide specifically for their class needs, otherwise students will be directed to a general subject guide, or to the University of Toledo LibGuides website. Contact a subject librarian to discuss possibilities.

Harry Potter’s World at UT Libraries

The University of Toledo Libraries, along with our partners Toledo-Lucas County Public Library, are proud to announce the exhibit Harry Potter’s World: Renaissance Science, Magic and Medicine. The exhibit, which was created by the National Library of Medicine, consists of six banners that explore the link between Harry Potter and the history of science. Visitors may view the exhibition at the Carlson Library on UT’s Main Campus from March 12 to 29 and at the Mulford Library on the Health Science Campus from April 3 to 20 during library hours.

In celebration of the exhibit the Carlson Library will host Lightning Strikes, a wicked-fun event for all ages on March 16, from 4-6pm. The event is free and open to the public and will feature Potter-themed games, activities, prize drawings and refreshments.

A lecture series, also open to the public, will be held on both the Main and Health Science campuses. These one-hour talks given by UT professors from the fields of medicine, law, literature and philosophy will discuss some of the themes found in the Harry Potter novels.

For lecture series dates, calendar of events and more information about the exhibit (including directions and parking), please visit http://libguides.utoledo.edu/harry. Questions can be directed to Bridget Faricy-Beredo at 419-383-4214 or bridget.faricy@utoledo.edu.

Link from Library Catalog to More Resources

When you do a search in the library catalog, you can often link out to more resources on the same topic.  Just do a search like you normally would, and then click on the ‘More Resources’ button to the right of the title.

This will bring up a menu of additional options based on the item you’re looking at, such as:

  • Searching for the same subject or title in our Research Databases to find articles.  (While the catalog can tell you what books, videos, and other items we have, it cannot find individual articles on a subject.)
  • Looking in online reference resources including encyclopedias
  • Finding e-books on the topic
  • Connecting to a Library Guide developed by our own librarians for more research ideas.

Use the ‘More Resources’ button to expand your research today!
